Paradip Port Sets New National Record: Fastest-Ever 100 MMT Cargo Throughput Achieved in Current Fiscal

Paradip Port in Odisha has once again demonstrated its leadership in India’s maritime sector by achieving a historic milestone clocking the fastest-ever 100 million metric tonnes (MMT) cargo throughput in a fiscal year since its establishment. The remarkable achievement came on 27th November, marking the 9th consecutive year that the port has breached the 100 MMT mark.

This year, the port recorded 100.15 MMT, showcasing a strong 4.78% year-on-year growth. Impressively, Paradip Port reached the milestone 12 days earlier compared to the previous fiscal year. While the 100 MMT benchmark in FY 2024–25 was achieved on 9th December 2024, this fiscal year the target was attained in just 241 days, significantly outperforming last year’s 253 days.

According to the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, this achievement highlights Paradip Port’s operational efficiency even amid challenging global and domestic trade conditions. The Ministry emphasised that faster operations, systematic improvements, and strong stakeholder collaboration played a crucial role in keeping the Paradip Port Authority (PPA) ahead of its targets.

Key cargo categories contributed significantly to the port’s growth momentum. Coal handling, which accounts for nearly 45% of total cargo movement, showed a 3.76% increase. Containerised cargo witnessed a massive 32% surge, while gypsum & flux climbed 24%, steel cargo soared 35%, and POL (Petroleum, Oil & Lubricants) increased by 31% on a year-on-year basis. These figures solidify Paradip Port’s standing as one of the nation’s top coastal shipping hubs.

PPA Chairman PL Haranadh, during an interaction with local media, extended his gratitude to Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal for his continuous support and strategic direction. He also applauded the collective efforts of port officers, employees, PPP operators, stevedores, steamer agents, user industries, trade unions, and all other stakeholders who played a key role in this success.

Additionally, the Chairman acknowledged the contribution of the Government of Odisha, Indian Railways, Customs, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, and several other agencies in facilitating smooth port operations throughout the year.

With this exceptional performance and a strong focus on advancing operational efficiency, Paradip Port Authority is confidently poised to achieve an all-time high cargo throughput in the current fiscal year reinforcing its role as a critical backbone of India’s maritime trade and logistics ecosystem.
