Modi inaugurates key development projects at Deendayal Port

In a historic step towards transforming India’s maritime infrastructure, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for several key development projects of the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla, with a total investment exceeding ₹1,100 crores. The grand event, held at Bhuj, Kutch, witnessed the unveiling of a series of transformative initiatives aimed at modernizing port operations, promoting clean energy, and boosting regional development.

Major Milestones Unveiled

Among the inaugurated projects worth ₹532 crores was the much anticipated Oil Jetty No. 8 at Old Kandla, built to handle 3.5 million metric tonnes (MMT) per annum. This state of the art jetty is equipped with telescopic gangways, an indigenously developed quick release mooring system, and a modern automated firefighting system, enabling safe and efficient handling of large liquid cargo vessels up to 1 lakh DWT.

Another significant project inaugurated was the connectivity to the Container Terminal at Tuna Tekra, which promises to enhance container traffic flow and streamline cargo movement.

Expanding Port Capacity for EXIM Cargo

One of the key highlights of these developments is the expansion of port area dedicated to EXIM (Export Import) cargo storage. This initiative aims to accelerate cargo evacuation and strengthen the port's logistics infrastructure, further boosting India’s trade competitiveness.

Foundation Laid for Clean Energy & Infrastructure Projects

The foundation stone was laid for projects worth ₹602 crores, reflecting DPA’s bold commitment to sustainability and smart infrastructure. Leading the way is the establishment of a 10 MW Green Hydrogen Production Facility at Kandla, positioning DPA as a future ready Green Hydrogen Hub under the National Green Hydrogen Mission.

Additionally, infrastructure enhancements include the construction of three Road Over Bridges and upgradation of existing roads to six lanes in Kandla, which will significantly ease city port connectivity and reduce transit time.

Driving the Vision of Viksit Bharat @2047

Designated as one of the three major Green Hydrogen Ports in the country, Deendayal Port Authority is rapidly evolving into a model of clean energy integration, modern logistics, and inclusive development. These projects align with the larger vision of Viksit Bharat @2047, aiming to create a green, efficient, and globally competitive maritime ecosystem.

Commitment to Growth, Employment & Sustainability

With this wave of development, DPA is not only bolstering port operations but also enhancing community infrastructure and creating new employment opportunities. By adopting cutting edge cargo handling technologies and smart infrastructure solutions, DPA is reinforcing India’s ambition to become a global logistics powerhouse.
