Goa Shipyard launches sixth Fast Patrol Vessel for Coast Guard

Strengthening coastal defence with indigenous excellence
In a significant step toward bolstering India’s maritime security, Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) launched ICGS Atal, the sixth Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) in a series of eight being built for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG). The launch ceremony was held on Monday at Vasco-da-Gama, Goa, marking another milestone in India’s journey toward self-reliance in defence manufacturing.
Indigenous Design and Build Excellence
The newly launched vessel, designated Yard 1275, is a part of GSL’s larger initiative under the Ministry of Defence to deliver high-performance, indigenously designed patrol vessels. GSL, a leading Defence Public Sector Undertaking, is known for its commitment to innovation, self-reliance, and timely project execution all of which were on full display during the event.
Capabilities of ICGS Atal
The ICGS Atal boasts impressive specifications:
Length: 52 metres
Beam: 8 metres
Displacement: 320 tonnes
This agile FPV is purpose-built for multiple operational roles, including:
Coastal and island surveillance
Offshore asset protection
Anti-smuggling and anti-piracy operations
Search and rescue (SAR) missions
Designed entirely in-house by GSL engineers, the vessel integrates the latest maritime technologies, reflecting the spirit of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (self-reliant India).

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Brajesh Kumar Upadhyay, Chairman and Managing Director of GSL, highlighted the team’s resilience:

Rozy Agarwal, Principal Internal Financial Advisor (PIFA) at Coast Guard Headquarters and the chief guest at the event, applauded GSL’s stellar execution capabilities and its critical role in safeguarding India's maritime interests.
The launch ceremony witnessed the presence of senior dignitaries from the Indian Coast Guard, Indian Navy, Ministry of Defence, industry partners, and GSL representatives, all gathered to celebrate a milestone in India's defence shipbuilding journey.
