Grammarly launches 9 AI agents to help students and professionals with writing

Grammarly, once known primarily as a grammar and spell-checking tool, has entered a new era. The company has unveiled nine AI-powered agents designed to act as smart writing partners for students and professionals. Moving far beyond grammar correction, these agents are built to guide, refine, and upgrade writing without the need for complex prompts.

Grammarly steps into the AI agent space

With the launch of its new platform, Grammarly Docs, the company is positioning itself at the forefront of AI-assisted writing. Grammarly Docs is an AI-first writing space where users can draft, edit, and polish their work with real-time assistance. Whether it’s a student preparing an assignment or a professional crafting an important email, these tools aim to boost confidence and improve outcomes.

What the AI agents can do

Each of Grammarly’s nine AI agents is trained for a specific role, delivering targeted, context-aware feedback while maintaining the writer’s personal style.

Some of the standout agents include:

  • Reader Reactions – Predicts how an audience might respond and suggests improvements.

  • Paraphraser – Rewrites text in academic, professional, or casual tones.

  • AI Grader – Provides rubric-based feedback and even an estimated grade.

  • Expert Review – Offers subject-specific insights for stronger writing.

  • Citation Finder – Locates credible sources and generates proper citations.

  • Proofreader – Checks clarity, structure, and readability.

  • AI Detector – Flags whether text appears AI- or human-written.

  • Plagiarism Checker – Scans for copied content or missing references.

All of these tools are seamlessly available inside Grammarly Docs, alongside AI Chat, a sidebar assistant for brainstorming, summarizing, and generating quick suggestions.

Bridging the gap between students and the workplace

Grammarly’s focus is clear supporting students and professionals in becoming AI-literate. The company’s own survey revealed a concerning gap: only 18% of students feel prepared to use AI in their careers, while 66% of employers expect AI literacy.

For students, the agents can streamline the research and writing process. For instance, Citation Finder helps with sourcing, Proofreader polishes drafts, and AI Grader provides a last check before submission. For professionals, Reader Reactions and Expert Review can help tailor communication to the right audience and ensure accuracy.

Availability and future expansion

Currently, the AI agents are available in Grammarly Free and Grammarly Pro, though AI Detector and Plagiarism Checker are exclusive to Pro users. Enterprise and Education customers will gain access later this year. For now, these tools are limited to Grammarly Docs, but the company has ambitious plans to expand them across the 500,000+ apps and websites where Grammarly already integrates.

More than grammar: a productivity partner

With this launch, Grammarly is making a bold shift from being a simple grammar tool to becoming a full productivity platform. By embedding smart, specialized AI agents into the writing process, Grammarly aims to help users write smarter, faster, and with more confidence no matter their role or stage of learning.
