Kerala’s flagship deep-sea port project, the Vizhinjam International Seaport, has achieved a major national milestone by winning the National Project Excellence Award 2025 in the Mega Infrastructure category. The recognition marks a significant moment for one of India’s most ambitious maritime developments and highlights its growing importance in the country’s infrastructure landscape.

A Landmark Achievement for Kerala
The award underscores Vizhinjam’s strategic importance for Kerala and India’s maritime future. Designed as a next-generation deep-water port, Vizhinjam is poised to transform Kerala into a global shipping and transshipment hub. Its natural depth and strategic location near major international shipping lanes give it a strong competitive edge over existing ports in the region.

Boost to India’s Maritime Trade
Vizhinjam International Seaport is expected to play a crucial role in strengthening India’s position in global maritime trade. By handling large container vessels directly, the port aims to reduce India’s dependence on foreign transshipment ports, leading to lower logistics costs, improved efficiency, and enhanced trade competitiveness for Indian exporters and importers.

Joining an Elite Group of Projects
With this honour, Vizhinjam joins a select list of nationally significant infrastructure projects that have previously received the National Project Excellence Award. Notable past recipients include the new Parliament building and the Atal Tunnel in Himachal Pradesh, both considered benchmarks in large-scale project execution and engineering excellence.

Recognition of Project Excellence
The National Project Excellence Award is jointly instituted by the International Institute of Projects and Program Management (i2P2M) and the Centre for Excellence in Project Management (CEPM). These organisations are known for promoting global best practices in project planning, execution, and governance. The award recognises Vizhinjam’s robust execution framework, engineering quality, and long-term economic and strategic value.

Strengthening India’s Global Maritime Vision
Officials from Adani Vizhinjam Port Pvt. Ltd., the developer of the port, received the award at a formal ceremony in New Delhi. The recognition is widely seen as a strong endorsement of Vizhinjam’s vision to emerge as a key gateway on major East–West shipping routes, reinforcing India’s broader ambition to build world-class maritime infrastructure and become a global logistics powerhouse.
