Tamil Nadu political parties slam Vijay for remarks on leaders

Tamil Nadu’s political landscape heated up on Friday as major parties lashed out at actor-turned-politician Vijay for his sharp remarks against their leaders during his second state conference held in Madurai on Thursday. Vijay, who launched his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) earlier this year, has been positioning himself as a formidable challenger ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
Vijay’s Strong Words at the Madurai Conference
Addressing a massive crowd in Madurai district, Vijay criticized key political figures including Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the AIADMK. He declared that the 2026 Assembly election would be a direct fight between his party TVK and the ruling DMK, challenging the dominance of Tamil Nadu’s traditional powerhouses.
DMK Hits Back at Vijay
DMK leaders reacted strongly to Vijay’s choice of words, particularly his reference to Chief Minister Stalin as “uncle.” Municipal administration minister K.N. Nehru said, “He has stooped to a low standard in addressing a tall political leader who has been in politics for four decades and is the sitting Chief Minister as ‘uncle’. The DMK backed by the people will give Vijay a fitting reply in the 2026 Assembly election.”
BJP Calls it a “Film Show”
Former Governor and BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan also condemned Vijay for his criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She remarked, “It seemed like he was delivering movie dialogues. It was merely a one-day film show… I condemn Vijay for saying Mr Prime Minister when Modi is the master prime minister who is loved by the entire world.”
AIADMK Warns of Political Reality
The AIADMK too did not hold back. Party spokesperson C. Vaigaiselvan accused Vijay of unfairly targeting their alliance with the BJP, saying, “Vijay and his TVK will disappear after the 2026 Assembly poll.” Deputy leader of opposition R.B. Udayakumar reinforced that “both the national and regional parties clearly know that they all have to rally behind the AIADMK to unseat the DMK.”
Rising Tensions Ahead of 2026
The fierce reactions from Tamil Nadu’s major parties underline how seriously they are viewing Vijay’s political entry. While TVK is yet to be tested at the ballot box, Vijay’s massive crowd-pulling ability and bold criticisms have already made him a talking point across the state’s political circles. With less than two years left for the Assembly polls, the battle lines are clearly being drawn and Vijay has ensured that his new party is firmly in the spotlight.
