Rahul Gandhi to launch MP Cong revival campaign; second phase of Ram Mandir consecration

As India navigates a politically dynamic week, Madhya Pradesh finds itself at the center of national attention with significant developments on both the political and cultural fronts. From Congress’s internal revival efforts to the ceremonial continuation at Ayodhya’s Ram Mandir and global representation at the BRICS forum, this week marks crucial shifts across the board.

Rahul Gandhi's Madhya Pradesh Campaign: Reviving the Congress Base

Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, is set to spearhead the ‘Sangathan Srajan Abhiyan’ (Organisation Rejuvenation Campaign) in Bhopal on Tuesday. This campaign, greenlit by the Congress Working Committee during its December 2024 meeting in Karnataka’s Belagavi, is aimed at a comprehensive structural revamp of the party in Madhya Pradesh.

After a series of electoral setbacks including the collapse of the Congress-led state government in 2020, a dismal performance in the 2023 Assembly elections, and the BJP's clean sweep in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls the Congress is striving to rebuild its foundation. The party secured just 66 of the 234 Assembly seats and failed to win even one of the 29 Parliamentary constituencies in the state.

Gandhi’s agenda in Bhopal includes a political affairs meeting, sessions with MPs, MLAs, and district observers, and a grand convention with state, district, and block-level leaders. The visit follows the recent pilot project launch in Vidisha district, where grassroots reorganization efforts are already underway.

Former state party chief Arun Yadav and senior Congress leader Sajjan Verma emphasized the need to rejuvenate the party structure and energize its cadre: “We have not been in power in Madhya Pradesh for a long time. The campaign is aimed at empowering workers at the grassroots level.”

Madhya Pradesh Cabinet Pays Tribute to Tribal King Raja Bhabhut Singh

In a parallel political display, the BJP-led Madhya Pradesh government will convene a Cabinet meeting in Pachmarhi on the same day to honour Raja Bhabhut Singh, a tribal king from the Gond community. The state government aims to acknowledge his legacy, particularly his role in utilizing the hilly terrains of Pachmarhi for effective governance and cultural preservation.

This move aligns with the BJP’s broader effort to commemorate regional icons, such as the recent Cabinet meeting at Indore’s Rajwada Palace to honour Ahilyabai Holkar and PM Modi’s presence at the “Mahila Sashaktikaran Maha Sammelan” in Bhopal.

Second Phase of Ram Mandir Consecration Underway in Ayodhya

Meanwhile, Ayodhya is witnessing the second phase of the Ram Mandir consecration. A grand sacred procession began Monday from the banks of the Saryu River, setting the stage for upcoming rituals. The focus this time is on the consecration of idols in the Ram Darbar on the temple’s first floor and six other temples within the complex.

The culmination of ceremonies is scheduled for June 5, coinciding with Ganga Dussehra, a significant Hindu festival. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is slated to attend four major events. While the rituals are of grand significance, no public invitations have been issued for the June 3–5 period. This event mirrors the temple’s original ‘pran pratishtha’ held in January 2024, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Om Birla Represents India at BRICS Parliamentary Forum in Brazil

On the international front, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla is leading India’s parliamentary delegation at the 11th BRICS Parliamentary Forum in Brazil. His keynote presentation will focus on the reform of multilateral peace and security architecture, a topic of increasing relevance in today’s geopolitical climate.

The Indian delegation includes Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, MPs Surendra Singh Nagar, Vijay Baghel, Vivek Thakur, and Shabari Byreddy. Senior parliamentary officials like Lok Sabha Secretary General Utpal Kumar Singh and Rajya Sabha Secretary General P C Mody are also part of the delegation.

Conclusion: A Week of Revival, Rituals, and Representation

From Bhopal to Ayodhya to Brazil, this week captures India’s multi-layered socio-political landscape. While Rahul Gandhi seeks to breathe new life into a struggling Congress in Madhya Pradesh, the BJP strengthens its cultural connect and governance narrative. At the same time, India’s voice is being heard on the global stage through Om Birla's participation at the BRICS Forum.
