Deendayal Port Authority to Launch India’s First 150 TPD e-Methanol Plant at Major Port
A Landmark Green Fuel Initiative
In a landmark move towards sustainable maritime development, Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla is set to initiate site work for India’s first 150 Tonnes Per Day (TPD) e-Methanol Plant in collaboration with Assam Petrochemicals Limited (APL).
This ambitious project marks a major step in India’s clean energy transition within the maritime sector. By introducing large-scale green fuel production at a major port, DPA is reinforcing its role as a leader in sustainable port development.
Formal Commencement of Site Activities
The project site was visited by senior officials of DPA Kandla and APL, led by Shri Sushil Kumar Singh, IRSME, Chairman, DPA Kandla, and Shri Bikul Deka, Chairman, Assam Petrochemicals Ltd.
This visit signifies the formal commencement of on-ground activities for this pioneering initiative. The coordination between port authorities and petrochemical experts reflects a strong strategic partnership aimed at accelerating India’s green maritime transformation.
Driving Maritime Decarbonisation
The proposed 150 TPD e-Methanol plant will play a transformative role in promoting alternative marine fuels. e-Methanol, considered a cleaner and sustainable marine fuel, has the potential to significantly reduce carbon emissions from ships operating at Indian ports.
This initiative directly supports India’s Net-Zero ambitions and global commitments towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions. By integrating alternative fuel infrastructure within port premises, DPA is preparing for the next generation of environmentally responsible shipping.
Strengthening India’s Green Shipping Ecosystem
The APL–DPA partnership represents a historic milestone, positioning Kandla as a frontrunner among major ports in adopting sustainable fuel technologies. With the development of this 150 TPD facility, DPA Kandla continues to reinforce its leadership in building future-ready maritime infrastructure.
The project will not only contribute to emission reduction but will also encourage ship operators to adopt greener fuels, strengthening India’s overall green shipping ecosystem.
A Future-Ready Maritime Vision
As global shipping transitions towards low-carbon operations, ports must evolve beyond traditional cargo handling to become energy hubs. By launching India’s first e-Methanol plant at a major port, Deendayal Port Authority is setting a benchmark for innovation, sustainability, and strategic foresight.
This initiative places Kandla at the forefront of India’s maritime decarbonisation journey, showcasing how ports can actively drive environmental responsibility while supporting economic growth.
