Nothing Phone 3 confirmed to offer extended software support: All details

A new era for Nothing's flagship lineup
Nothing is gearing up to launch its most ambitious smartphone yet the Nothing Phone 3, and it's already making waves ahead of its official debut in India on July 1, 2025. Branded as the company’s “first true flagship,” the Phone 3 is set to challenge competitors with premium materials, a powerful processor, refined software, and improved cameras.
One of the most headline-worthy features? Up to 7 years of software support, a rarity in the Android space.
Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 and Performance Boost
The Phone 3 will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset, which sparked discussions across social media. In response, Nothing’s co-founder Akis Evangelidis clarified the performance metrics of the new chip, posting on X (formerly Twitter) that the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 brings:
88% GPU performance improvement
33% faster CPU
125% upgrade in NPU
…compared to the Nothing Phone 2.
When a user asked, “Why not the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3?”, Evangelidis explained that the 8 Gen 3 actually offers lower long-term performance and only 4 years of software support. By contrast, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 enables 5 years of OS updates and 7 years of security updates on the Phone 3 a major leap from the Phone 2’s 3-year OS and 4-year security support.
What to Expect from the Nothing Phone 3
While full specifications are yet to be confirmed, early leaks and teasers hint at a promising flagship package:
6.7-inch LTPO AMOLED display, 120Hz refresh rate
Triple rear camera setup, possibly 50MP sensors including a 50MP telephoto lens with up to 3x optical zoom
Transparent rear panel, staying true to Nothing’s signature aesthetic (though the glyph light interface will reportedly be dropped)
5200mAh battery for longer performance
Likely AI-powered software features, although specific details are still under wraps
A Big Step for Android Longevity
With 7 years of security updates and a more future-proof chipset, Nothing is setting a new benchmark for Android manufacturers. This move shows a serious commitment to long-term device performance, sustainability, and user trust.
As July 1 approaches, more details about the Nothing Phone 3’s AI features, software interface, and pricing are expected to emerge. But for now, this bold mix of performance, design, and extended software support makes it a flagship to watch in 2025.
