MSC launches new shipping routes that include Saudi Arabia’s King Abdulaziz and Jubail ports

The global shipping landscape continues to evolve as the Swiss shipping giant Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) expands its network with the introduction of two new cargo services that prominently feature Saudi Arabia’s King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam and Jubail Commercial Port. This strategic development was announced recently by the Saudi Ports Authority, Mawani.

Strengthening Global Connectivity

As part of its continued commitment to enhancing logistics and maritime infrastructure, MSC’s new services aim to significantly boost the Kingdom's trade connectivity. Each of these cargo services is designed with a substantial handling capacity of 14,000 TEUs, ensuring the seamless movement of goods across continents.

Details of the First Service Route

The first of the two new services will link King Abdulaziz Port and Jubail Commercial Port with 16 key regional and international ports. These include:

  • Bahrain (1 port)

  • Qatar (1 port)

  • India (1 port)

  • Sri Lanka (1 port)

  • Singapore (1 port)

  • Vietnam (2 ports)

  • China (5 ports)

  • South Korea (1 port)

  • United States (1 port)

This extensive network underscores Saudi Arabia’s growing importance as a central hub in global trade routes.

Second Service Route Adds European and Gulf Ports

The second service also boasts a nominal capacity of 14,000 TEUs and connects the Saudi ports to 12 other destinations. These include:

  • UAE (2 ports)

  • Qatar (1 port)

  • India (3 ports)

  • Portugal (1 port)

  • Italy (2 ports)

The inclusion of both European and Gulf ports underlines the versatility and strategic importance of the new service route.

Supporting National Export Movement

Mawani emphasized that these developments align with Saudi Arabia’s broader efforts to enhance the competitiveness and efficiency of its maritime sector. The new MSC services are set to facilitate smoother trade flows and bolster the movement of national exports, positioning King Abdulaziz and Jubail Commercial Port as vital gateways for international commerce.

Looking Ahead

These initiatives come at a time when Saudi Arabia is investing heavily in its port infrastructure as part of Vision 2030. With MSC’s expanded presence, exporters and importers in the region can look forward to improved scheduling, higher capacity options, and greater access to global markets.
