Mamata only stands with jihadis', Bengal BJP general secretary on Waqf violence

Hello readers! As India's political temperature rises with significant events across states, one issue that continues to spark intense debate is the Waqf property row in West Bengal. The situation escalated this week as violent protests erupted in parts of the state, drawing strong reactions from opposition leaders. In a scathing statement, the Bengal BJP General Secretary accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of siding with jihadis, stating that her silence and inaction over the Waqf violence clearly signals her selective approach to governance and justice.
The Waqf Board issue, which involves the management and ownership of Muslim endowment properties, has led to public outrage and legal battles. Several political parties have already filed petitions in the Supreme Court against what they claim are illegal encroachments and lack of transparency in Waqf dealings. The BJP has intensified its stance, with party leaders blaming Mamata Banerjee for allowing religious appeasement to override law and order.
Meanwhile, political developments are unfolding in other parts of the country as well. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has embarked on a two-day visit to Gujarat, where he will lead an orientation programme for party workers in Ahmedabad. This marks the beginning of the party’s new pilot project aimed at strengthening district-level committees, a strategic move in preparation for upcoming elections in the state.
In another key meeting, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav is expected to meet Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge today. The meeting is seen as part of the ongoing efforts to unify the opposition and strategize for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
With Ambedkar Jayanti having been celebrated just yesterday, political parties are engaged in a symbolic tug-of-war over the Dalit icon’s legacy. While some are trying to claim Ambedkar's values as their ideological foundation, others are being accused of failing to uphold his vision of social justice.
As the Waqf unrest continues to simmer, the political ramifications in West Bengal are likely to be far-reaching. The BJP is using this opportunity to project Mamata Banerjee as indifferent to public sentiment and more focused on vote-bank politics. The Chief Minister has yet to make a detailed public statement addressing the violence, which only adds to the BJP’s narrative of selective governance.
