Machilipatnam port construction to be completed by 2026: AP Minister

The development of Andhra Pradesh’s maritime infrastructure is set to take a major leap forward as the state gears up to complete the construction of Machilipatnam Port by December 2026. This ambitious announcement was made by AP Minister for Mines and Excise, Kollu Ravindra, during a stakeholder review meeting held at the Zilla Parishad Convention Hall in Machilipatnam.

Boost to Trade and Employment

The completion of Phase I will mark the beginning of full-scale export, import, logistics, and related operations. Once operational, the port is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing trade routes and connectivity across the region. The Minister emphasized that the port would open up massive employment opportunities by encouraging the establishment of port-based industries, contributing significantly to the economic development of the coastal town.

Vision for a Model City

To complement the port development, a mega master plan is being rolled out to transform Machilipatnam into a model city. The plan focuses on creating better infrastructure, strengthening education systems, and improving healthcare facilities. This holistic development approach is aimed at uplifting the living standards of residents and positioning Machilipatnam as a key urban hub in coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Railway Connectivity and Tourism Boost

A Detailed Project Report (DPR) is also underway for the Machilipatnam–Repalle railway line, which will enhance connectivity and support cargo movement to and from the port. Furthermore, Manginapudi Beach is set to receive a facelift with modern amenities and the hosting of a mega beach festival, expected to boost tourism in the region.

Industrial Growth with MSME Park

In a move to encourage industrialization, a Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Park is planned on 300 acres at Gilakaladindi. This park will promote diverse sectors such as imitation jewellery, aquaculture, Kalamkari textile art, and boat manufacturing. The initiative is aimed at providing a platform for traditional and emerging industries to thrive, backed by strong logistical support from the upcoming port.

Support from State Authorities

AP State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) Chairman, Konakalla Narayana Rao, extended full support for skill development centres to empower the local workforce. He also appealed to the residents to contribute land for fostering industrial expansion. Meanwhile, Krishna District Collector DK Balaji affirmed that construction work at the Machilipatnam port and Gilakaladindi fishing harbour is progressing swiftly, keeping pace with the government’s timeline.

Conclusion

With dedicated efforts from the state government and enthusiastic support from local authorities, Machilipatnam is on the brink of a transformation. From an emerging port city to a thriving industrial and tourist hub, the completion of the Machilipatnam Port marks the beginning of a new era for the region — one that promises economic growth, job creation, and comprehensive urban development.
