India, Saudi Arabia form joint working group to boost maritime cooperation

Strengthening Maritime Ties

India and Saudi Arabia have taken a significant step forward in enhancing their bilateral partnership by announcing the formation of a Joint Working Group (JWG) on maritime cooperation. The decision was finalized during a high-level virtual meeting between India’s Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, and Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Transport and Logistics Services, Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser.

Focus on Shipping and Logistics

The newly established JWG will serve as a dedicated platform to advance cooperation in shipping, logistics, and port development. By aligning strategies and resources, both nations aim to streamline maritime trade routes, improve port infrastructure, and expand logistical capabilities to meet growing global demands.

Expanding Strategic Collaboration

Officials highlighted that this initiative goes beyond trade facilitation. It marks a strategic expansion of India–Saudi relations, which already have a strong foundation in energy and commerce. By focusing on maritime trade, port infrastructure, and allied areas, the JWG is expected to generate new opportunities for businesses and boost bilateral economic growth.

Opportunities for Growth

The partnership is likely to open doors for joint investments, technology exchange, and knowledge sharing in the maritime sector. Enhanced connectivity between Indian and Saudi ports can improve efficiency, reduce costs, and strengthen both countries’ positions in global shipping networks.

A Step Toward the Future

The formation of this Joint Working Group reflects the shared vision of India and Saudi Arabia to create a resilient and future-ready maritime ecosystem. As both nations continue to expand their roles in international trade, this collaboration stands as a landmark move towards deeper strategic cooperation and sustainable growth.
