Deendayal Port to host India’s first port-based green hydrogen plant
A Landmark Step Towards Green Ports in India
Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla, has taken a decisive step towards decarbonising India’s maritime sector by signing a landmark agreement with Oswal Greenzo Energies to establish the country’s first port-based green hydrogen plant. This initiative places Deendayal Port at the forefront of India’s transition to sustainable and future-ready port infrastructure.
Project Scope and Technical Overview
Under the agreement, Oswal Greenzo Energies will be responsible for the complete lifecycle of the project, including design, engineering, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of a 5 MW green hydrogen facility within the port premises. The project represents a major milestone in integrating clean energy solutions directly into port operations, setting a new benchmark for Indian ports.
Alignment with National Sustainability Missions
The green hydrogen project strongly aligns with the Government of India’s Make in India – Make for the World vision and the objectives of the National Green Hydrogen Mission. By promoting indigenous manufacturing, advanced technology adoption and renewable energy usage, the initiative supports India’s broader goal of becoming a global hub for green hydrogen production and exports.
Production Capacity and Operational Benefits
Once commissioned, the plant is expected to produce approximately 840 metric tonnes of green hydrogen annually. This clean fuel will be utilised across port operations, mobility solutions and allied logistics activities. Its use will significantly reduce carbon emissions from maritime operations, transportation and supply chain movements, while encouraging the wider adoption of renewable energy within port ecosystems.
Building a Low-Carbon Maritime Ecosystem
This initiative highlights Deendayal Port Authority’s growing focus on advanced technologies, renewable energy integration and innovation-led solutions. By hosting India’s first port-based green hydrogen plant, DPA reinforces its role as a key enabler of a low-carbon, sustainable and globally competitive maritime ecosystem, setting a powerful example for ports across the country to follow.
