Bihar Assembly elections updates: If any political parties feel names have been left out, they can still apply, says CEC on SIR

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, addressed a press conference on Sunday (October 5, 2025) to share key updates regarding the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. The conference followed the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) two-day visit to Bihar, during which officials met with various stakeholders and reviewed poll preparedness across the state.

BLOs praised for their crucial role
During the conference, CEC Gyanesh Kumar commended the efforts of Booth Level Officers (BLOs) from all districts of Bihar. Over 90,000 BLOs participated in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, ensuring the process was completed within the stipulated timeframe. Their work played a vital role in verifying voter data and enhancing the accuracy of electoral rolls across the state.

Political parties can still submit names
Addressing concerns regarding omissions during the SIR, the CEC clarified that if any political parties feel names have been left out, they can still apply to the Election Commission. He emphasized that the ECI remains open and transparent, encouraging all political parties to verify the voter lists to maintain fairness and inclusivity in the electoral process.

17 new initiatives for a smoother election process
Highlighting the Commission’s focus on voter convenience and efficient management, Mr. Kumar announced 17 new initiatives for the Bihar Assembly polls. Among the notable measures are steps to reduce crowding and shorten queues at polling booths, ensuring a more comfortable experience for voters.

To achieve this, the ECI has capped the number of voters per polling station at 1,200, improving accessibility and reducing wait times. Additionally, dedicated counters for depositing mobile phones will be set up outside polling stations, ensuring compliance with poll rules while maintaining voter convenience.

A step forward in inclusive and efficient elections
The ECI’s proactive measures underline its commitment to conducting free, fair, and voter-friendly elections in Bihar. With enhanced logistics, transparent processes, and a focus on inclusivity, the upcoming Bihar Assembly polls aim to set a new benchmark in electoral management and voter experience.
