In a significant administrative engagement, the Chief Secretary of Odisha visited Paradip Port Authority (PPA) to review ongoing and proposed maritime infrastructure projects. The visit marked an important step in strengthening coordination between the state government and port administration to accelerate Odisha’s port-led development strategy.

Maiden Visit of Anu Garg

Anu Garg, Hon’ble Chief Secretary of the Government of Odisha, paid her maiden visit to Paradip Port Authority after assuming charge.

She was received by P. L. Haranadh, Chairman of PPA, in the presence of the District Collector and Superintendent of Police of Jagatsinghpur, along with other senior officials. The visit reflected the government’s continued focus on strengthening maritime infrastructure in the state.

Review of Key Maritime Projects

During her visit to the Administrative Building, the Chief Secretary was apprised of key infrastructural and technological advancements undertaken by the Port. Detailed discussions were held on several transformative projects, including:

Bahuda Satellite Port

The proposed Bahuda Satellite Port aims to enhance cargo-handling capacity and decongest existing facilities. This initiative is expected to strengthen Odisha’s maritime competitiveness and support industrial growth in the region.

Puri Cruise Terminal

The development of the Puri Cruise Terminal is designed to promote coastal tourism and position Odisha as a prominent destination on India’s cruise tourism map. This project aligns with the broader vision of boosting tourism-led economic development.

Shipbuilding Cluster at Kendrapara

The Shipbuilding Cluster proposed at Kendrapara is envisioned as a hub for maritime manufacturing and allied industries. The project is expected to generate employment opportunities and attract investments into Odisha’s maritime ecosystem.

Focus on Port-Led Development

The discussions also covered broader port-led development initiatives across Odisha, emphasizing integrated logistics, infrastructure modernization, and sustainable growth. The Chief Secretary expressed satisfaction over the Port’s consistent cargo growth and appreciated its strategic expansion plans and forward-looking development roadmap.

T. Venu Gopal, Deputy Chairman of PPA, along with other senior officials, were present during the review session.

Ceremonial Guard of Honour at Wet Basin

As part of the visit, the Chief Secretary also toured the Wet Basin area of the Port. A Ceremonial Guard of Honour was presented by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) Unit of PPA, marking the occasion with due dignity and protocol.

Strengthening Odisha’s Maritime Future

The visit underscores the Government of Odisha’s commitment to accelerating maritime growth and infrastructure development. With strategic initiatives such as the Bahuda Satellite Port, Puri Cruise Terminal, and Shipbuilding Cluster, Paradip Port Authority continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the state’s economic and industrial future.

As Odisha advances its maritime ambitions, collaborative efforts between state leadership and port authorities will remain crucial in transforming the coastline into a dynamic gateway for trade, tourism, and industrial expansion.
