Bihar to build three new ‘marine drives’ along the Ganga at ₹17,000 crore

Bihar is all set to embark on a major infrastructure transformation with the launch of three new ‘marine drive’ projects along the Ganga River, inspired by the remarkable success of the J.P. Ganga Path in Patna. With a total investment of around ₹17,000 crore, these projects aim to enhance connectivity, promote tourism, and support local enterprise across the state.
A Vision for Modern Bihar
Announcing the initiative, State Road Construction Minister Nitin Nabin stated, “Encouraged by the success of the J.P. Ganga Path in Patna, we are now moving ahead with three more four-lane road projects along the Ganga to strengthen regional connectivity and ease traffic congestion.” He further credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for their leadership and support in realizing Bihar’s infrastructure vision.
Three Ambitious Corridors
The upcoming projects include:
The 35.65-kilometer Digha–Sherpur–Bihta–Koilwar corridor
The 41.33-kilometer Sultanganj–Bhagalpur–Sabour route
The 42-kilometer Munger (Safiabad)–Bariyarpur–Ghorghat–Sultanganj stretch
These corridors will collectively redefine Bihar’s road connectivity, offering smoother travel experiences and shorter commute times for millions of residents and travelers.
Boosting Regional Growth and Tourism
Minister Nabin highlighted that the new four-lane marine drives would not only improve transport and reduce urban congestion but also create new opportunities for tourism and business. The nearly 84-kilometer Munger–Bhagalpur network, in particular, will serve as a vital link for north Bihar and function as a ring road for Bhagalpur and Munger, easing traffic flow in both cities.
Massive Investment for a Brighter Future
The estimated project costs are:
Sultanganj–Bhagalpur Ganga Path: ₹4,849.83 crore
Munger–Sultanganj Ganga Path: ₹5,119.80 crore
Digha–Sherpur–Bihta–Koilwar corridor: ₹6,495.79 crore
Beyond road infrastructure, the state also plans to develop beautiful ghats along these corridors, adding cultural and tourism value to the riverfront.
Conclusion
With these ambitious ‘marine drive’ projects, Bihar is not just building roads it’s paving the way for a more connected, economically vibrant, and tourist-friendly future. The Ganga River, a symbol of life and heritage, will once again become the centerpiece of Bihar’s growth story, linking progress with tradition.
