Awareness campaigns, meetings mark World Heart Day in Vizag

World Heart Day was observed with much enthusiasm in Visakhapatnam on Monday, September 29, 2025, as hospitals across the city came together to raise awareness about cardiovascular health. With heart disease continuing to be the leading cause of death worldwide, the day’s events focused on prevention, early detection, and lifestyle changes.
Zumba for a Healthy Heart
Apollo Hospitals organised a unique celebration at Kailasgiri, where doctors, nurses, hospital staff, and members of the public participated in a lively Zumba session. The initiative aimed to highlight the importance of regular physical activity in preventing heart disease. Doctors reiterated that exercise, combined with healthy eating and regular check-ups, plays a crucial role in reducing heart-related risks.
As part of the programme, Apollo launched two new health packages dedicated to early detection of cardiac conditions. These packages will help individuals better understand their heart health and identify potential risks before they become serious.
Senior Interventional Cardiologists, including Dr. D.K. Baruah (Cath Lab Director), Dr. N. K. Panigrahi (HOD Cardiology), and Dr. Sashanka Ch, actively participated and interacted with the public, stressing the need for timely medical intervention.
Inaugural Event at KIMS Cuddles Hospital
At KIMS Cuddles Hospital, World Heart Day was inaugurated by Gajuwaka MLA Palla Srinivasa Rao. The event was also attended by Mayor Peela Srinivas and BJP State vice president Adari Anand, underlining the community’s commitment to spreading awareness about heart health.
Paediatric cardiologist Dr. Shantipriya addressed the gathering with insights into congenital heart diseases in children. She explained the unique challenges faced by young patients and highlighted that while heart problems in children are often complex, advancements in treatment ensure that timely care can lead to positive outcomes.
Doctors Dr. Satish Kumar Petakamsetty and Dr. Saibal Ram Krishna also spoke at the event, encouraging families to be more vigilant about children’s heart health and to seek immediate care when symptoms are noticed.
A Call for Preventive Care
Medical experts at both events emphasised that most cardiovascular diseases are preventable through lifestyle modifications, regular screenings, and timely treatment. They urged the public to make heart health a priority by staying active, eating a balanced diet, and undergoing regular check-ups.
With such initiatives, Vizag’s healthcare community has sent out a strong message on World Heart Day prevention and awareness are the best weapons in the fight against heart disease.
