Andhra Pradesh unveils ₹23,000-crore plan to emerge as national logistics hub

Transforming the State’s Maritime and Trade Future
Andhra Pradesh is set to redefine its industrial and trade landscape with an ambitious ₹23,000-crore logistics and road infrastructure plan. The initiative aims to transform the state into one of India’s most efficient maritime and logistics hubs leveraging its strategic location, vast coastline, and expanding industrial base to strengthen its role in both national and global trade.
Massive Investment in Connectivity and Infrastructure
Under the comprehensive plan, ₹18,485 crore will be dedicated to port and harbour road connectivity projects, while ₹4,500 crore will go toward upgrading state highways and Roads & Buildings (R&B) infrastructure. With a 975-km coastline and 15 operational seaports, including Visakhapatnam Port, the state’s blueprint focuses on seamless linkages between ports, highways, and industrial corridors creating a robust logistics backbone to support industries across sectors.
Dedicated Logistics Infrastructure Corporation to Oversee Development
To ensure smooth execution, the government will establish a Logistics Infrastructure Corporation, a nodal agency responsible for planning, financing, and coordinating all logistics-related initiatives. A senior Infrastructure and Investment Department official highlighted that the goal is to build an integrated logistics ecosystem connecting transport, warehousing, material handling, and digital networks under one unified system.
Addressing Industry Bottlenecks and Boosting Efficiency
Industries such as pharmaceuticals, textiles, engineering, food processing, and renewable energy have long faced logistics bottlenecks that hinder growth. The new plan addresses these challenges by aligning infrastructure upgrades with industrial and export corridor development. The focus is to eliminate inefficiencies, reduce logistics costs, and enhance turnaround times creating a smoother flow for trade and industry.
23 Strategic Road Projects to Connect Major Ports
Central to the initiative are 23 key road projects spanning 432 km, strategically connecting nine major ports Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, Krishnapatnam, Gangavaram, Nizampatnam, Mulapeta, Ramayapatnam, Machilipatnam, and the Krishna River terminal. These links will strengthen cargo movement between hinterland industries and export terminals, ensuring faster, more reliable transport of goods and materials.
Statewide Road Modernisation Drive Underway
The Andhra Pradesh government has also launched a massive road modernisation mission covering nearly 15,000 km of R&B and state highways. The key highlights include:
1,250 km of roads under the NABARD RIDF tranche to be completed by 2026.
1,433 km of state highways and 5,946 km of district roads to be upgraded and resurfaced.
Plans to modernise 2,104 km of major highways and 4,233 km of category-C roads after financial closure.
Currently, the state boasts 1.6 lakh km of total road length, including 8,360 km of national highways and 12,643 km of state highways, but several segments need expansion and quality enhancement to support growing industrial demand.
A Strategic Step Toward Global Supply Chain Integration
Officials emphasise that this initiative is not just a physical infrastructure upgrade it represents a strategic shift in Andhra Pradesh’s approach to logistics. The plan will integrate multimodal transport systems, improve port efficiency, and enhance export competitiveness, while encouraging industrial investment and regional trade integration.
By strengthening connectivity across ports, highways, and industries, Andhra Pradesh is positioning itself as a gateway state linking Telangana, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka poised to play a leading role in India’s logistics-driven growth story.
