Yashasvi Jaiswal stops ‘Kohli, Kohli’ chants in Delhi, turns it into ‘Jaiswal, Jaiswal’ euphoria with record century

A New Chant at Arun Jaitley Stadium
At a venue where the name “Virat Kohli” usually reverberates through the stands, a new name echoed with equal passion and pride   Yashasvi Jaiswal. On Friday, the young left-hander transformed Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium into a celebration of his own, silencing “Kohli, Kohli” chants and igniting “Jaiswal, Jaiswal” euphoria with a majestic unbeaten 173.

A Dominant Start for India
On Day 1 of the second Test against the West Indies, Jaiswal’s commanding innings propelled India to a dominant 318-2 at stumps. Partnering with Sai Sudharsan (87) in a brilliant 193-run stand, Jaiswal displayed poise, power, and patience. Earlier, he had stitched a solid 58-run opening partnership with KL Rahul (38), setting the foundation for India’s imposing total.

A Record-Breaking Knock
Still just 23 years old, Jaiswal’s numbers are staggering. Seven Test centuries   including two double tons   in under two years of international cricket. He has already scored centuries in the Caribbean, Perth, and Birmingham, making him one of the most consistent openers in modern Test cricket. His innings in Delhi further cemented his reputation as one of India’s brightest talents.

In a poetic twist, Jaiswal mirrored one of Kohli’s rare feats   scoring 150-plus on Day 1 of a home Test not once but twice, both at venues where Kohli had achieved the same: Vizag and Delhi. It was a symbolic passing of the torch   from one Delhi icon to another rising star.

Effortless Brilliance and Composure
Jaiswal’s innings was a masterclass in control and confidence. His straight drives were pure poetry, especially the one that sped past the umpire off Anderson Phillip, earning gasps from the crowd. He shifted gears seamlessly after lunch, thumping three boundaries in a single over off Jayden Seales to reach his fifty, and never looked back.

His celebration   a heart-shaped gesture followed by blown kisses   was as humble as it was confident, a moment of joy shared with the roaring Delhi crowd.

Sudharsan’s Composed Knock
Sai Sudharsan played the perfect supporting role with a composed 87, surviving an early dropped catch and showcasing solid technique before falling lbw to Jomel Warrican. His innings ensured India maintained momentum through the middle session, allowing Jaiswal to dominate from the other end.

India in Command
By the end of the day, Jaiswal and captain Shubman Gill (20)* had added an unbeaten 67-run partnership for the third wicket. With wickets in hand and Jaiswal looking unstoppable, India appears set for a mammoth first-innings total.

The Boy from Bhadohi Rules Delhi
On a day when nostalgia met new beginnings, it wasn’t the veteran from Delhi but the youngster from Bhadohi who stole the spotlight. Yashasvi Jaiswal didn’t just score runs   he owned the stage, won the hearts, and announced that the future of Indian batting is already here.
