Wilson takes delivery of Wilson ECO I

A Major Milestone for Wilson ASA
Wilson ASA has proudly taken delivery of WILSON ECO I, the first vessel in its innovative ECO series and the initial ship of a significant 14-vessel newbuilding program. Built at Udupi Cochin Shipyard Limited in India, this marks a key moment for Wilson ASA as it pushes forward in modernizing its fleet with a strong focus on sustainability and environmental responsibility.
Cutting-Edge Design for a Sustainable Future
The WILSON ECO I was designed by the renowned Dutch naval architect firm, Conoship International. Following the CIP3800 design, the vessel emphasizes energy efficiency, operational versatility, and enhanced environmental performance. Equipped with a diesel-electric propulsion system, the ship is also prepared for future integration of wind-assisted technologies, making it ready for the next wave of maritime innovations.
Exceeding Environmental Standards
One of the most remarkable achievements of the WILSON ECO I is its significant reduction in environmental impact. The vessel meets a 30 per cent reduction below the International Maritime Organisation’s (IMO) Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) target set for 2025. This accomplishment highlights a notable decrease in greenhouse gas emissions per unit of cargo transported, reinforcing Wilson ASA’s commitment to more sustainable and lower-emission operations.
The Road Ahead: A Greener Fleet
The ECO series will include six vessels with a deadweight tonnage (DWT) of 3,800, followed by eight vessels of 6,300 DWT. Deliveries are scheduled from early 2025 through 2028. Through this ambitious newbuilding program, Wilson ASA is not only expanding its operational capacity but is also playing a crucial role in reducing the shipping industry's environmental footprint.
Charting a Course Toward Sustainability
The delivery of WILSON ECO I signals more than just fleet expansion—it represents Wilson ASA’s dedication to innovation, sustainability, and leadership in shortsea shipping. As the ECO series takes shape over the coming years, Wilson ASA is setting a strong example for the future of greener maritime operations.
