VOC Port records 90% growth in windmill blade handling

India’s renewable energy sector has received a significant boost as VOC Port achieved a remarkable milestone in windmill blade handling, registering a 90.56% year-on-year growth. In July 2025, the Port managed 343 windmill blades, a sharp rise from 180 blades in July 2024, underscoring its growing role as a key logistics hub for clean energy.

A Surge in Renewable Energy Cargo

The increase in windmill blade handling reflects the expanding momentum of India’s wind energy sector. As the demand for larger and more efficient wind turbines rises, driven by government-backed clean energy targets and private sector investment in green infrastructure, ports like VOC are stepping up to meet logistics challenges with specialized expertise.

Infrastructure and Efficiency Driving Growth

According to port officials, the surge was made possible by improved infrastructure, efficient cargo-handling systems, and specialized facilities designed for over-dimensional and project cargo such as windmill blades. Strategic investments in advanced handling equipment, skilled manpower, and dedicated storage areas have enabled smooth and safe movement of these complex consignments.

VOC Port Chairman, Sushath Kumar Purohit, stated:
