VOC Port Records 47.19% YoY Growth in Urea Cargo Handling

The V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOC Port), Tuticorin, has reported an impressive 47.19 percent year-on-year growth in urea cargo handling during the period from April to December 2025, compared to the same period in 2024. This significant rise highlights the port’s strengthening role in supporting India’s agricultural and fertiliser supply chain.

Strong operational efficiency drives growth

The sharp increase in urea handling reflects VOC Port’s enhanced operational efficiency and improved cargo evacuation systems. Seamless coordination between port authorities, fertiliser importers, and logistics partners has enabled faster turnaround times and smoother movement of fertiliser cargo. These operational improvements have ensured minimal congestion and quicker dispatch to inland destinations.

Critical support to India’s agricultural sector

Urea remains one of the most essential inputs for India’s agricultural sector, directly influencing crop productivity and food security. The improved performance at VOC Port has played a key role in ensuring the timely availability of fertilisers across the hinterland, especially during crucial agricultural seasons. This reliability strengthens confidence among farmers and supports national food security objectives.

Growing confidence among stakeholders

Port officials have noted that the surge in cargo volumes reflects increasing trust among fertiliser importers and logistics partners in VOC Port’s infrastructure and handling capabilities. The port’s strategic location on the southeastern coast, combined with efficient rail and road connectivity, has reinforced its position as a major fertiliser gateway for southern India.

Strengthening India’s agricultural supply chain

With a sustained focus on productivity, mechanisation, and customer-centric operations, V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority continues to enhance its competitiveness. By supporting faster and more reliable fertiliser movement, the port is reinforcing its role as a critical link in India’s agricultural supply chain and contributing to long-term goals of food security and sustainable economic growth.
