VOC Port receives first Clinker vessel in line with the MoU with Ambuja Cement Limited

VOC Port has achieved a significant milestone with the arrival of the first clinker consignment under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with Ambuja Cement Limited, Gujarat, on 19 November 2025. This marks the beginning of a long-term collaboration under the Minimum Guaranteed Tonnage (MGT)-based Incentive Scheme for coastal clinkers, which ensures the coastal movement of 2,50,000 metric tonnes of clinker annually.

First Vessel Berthing at NCB-II

Fulfilling the MoU commitment, the vessel MV Lima Trader berthed at NCB-II on 24 November 2025. The vessel carried 56,440 metric tonnes of coastal clinker from Sanghi Port, Gujarat.
The shipment was handled efficiently with Seaport Shipping acting as the ship agent, while Seaport Logistics executed the stevedoring operations.

Smooth Inland Transportation to Grinding Unit

After unloading at the Port, the clinker will be transported by road to Ambuja’s grinding unit at Mela Arasadi, Tuticorin, located approximately 24 km from VOC Port. At the grinding unit, the clinker will be processed further to produce high-grade cement for regional consumption and industrial use.

A Boost to Coastal Shipping and Sustainability

Chairperson Susanta Kumar Purohit, IRSEE, highlighted the importance of this landmark shipment in his message. He noted that this movement symbolizes a major step forward in promoting sustainable and cost-effective coastal transportation, fully aligned with the Government of India’s vision to strengthen coastal shipping across the country.

He also shared that additional clinker vessels under this MoU are expected to call at VOC Port in the coming months. This continued movement will further boost cargo volumes, enhance supply chain efficiency, and reinforce the strong partnership between the Port and the cement industry.

Strengthening Industrial Growth Through Seamless Logistics

The successful arrival and handling of the MV Lima Trader not only marks the operational initiation of the MoU but also underscores VOC Port’s capability to support large-scale, long-term industrial logistics. This development promises improved coastal connectivity, reduced logistics cost, and a greener transportation model for cement and allied sectors.
