is all set to host Lighthouse Festival 3.0 on January 9 and 10, marking another important milestone in India’s growing focus on maritime heritage and coastal tourism. The two-day festival is being organised under the aegis of the Union Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and aims to celebrate the nation’s rich seafaring legacy while promoting lighthouse tourism and strengthening engagement with coastal communities.
Cultural Celebrations and Coastal Experiences
According to officials, the festival will feature a vibrant mix of cultural performances and special programmes that reflect the traditions and spirit of the coastal region. Events are scheduled daily from 6 pm onwards, offering visitors an immersive experience that blends art, culture, and maritime history. The celebrations are expected to create a festive atmosphere along the coastline and attract both local residents and tourists.
Review of Preparations and Administrative Readiness
Preparations for Lighthouse Festival 3.0 were recently reviewed at a meeting chaired by K. Mayur Ashok, Joint Collector of Visakhapatnam. During the meeting, he assessed the readiness of various departments to ensure smooth execution of the event. The review meeting was attended by the Deputy Director General of Lighthouses, along with senior port and district officials, highlighting the coordinated efforts being made to deliver a well-organised festival.
Dignitaries Expected to Attend
Officials highlighted the importance of the event by noting that several prominent dignitaries are expected to participate. These include former Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu, Union Tourism Minister Suresh Gopi, and State Tourism Minister Kandula Durgesh. Local MPs, MLAs, MLCs, and other public representatives are also likely to be present, adding to the significance of the celebrations.
Inspired by Past Success and Enhanced Arrangements
Drawing inspiration from the successful Lighthouse Festival editions held earlier in Goa and Puri, authorities have been directed to scale up arrangements for the Visakhapatnam edition. Instructions have been issued to ensure uninterrupted power supply, high standards of sanitation and cleanliness, the establishment of a medical camp, availability of drinking water, and other essential amenities. Transport facilities, including buses, are being planned, along with extensive publicity through mainstream media and social media platforms to maximise outreach.
Boost to Maritime Tourism in Visakhapatnam
With strong administrative backing and wide public participation expected, Lighthouse Festival 3.0 is poised to position Visakhapatnam as a prominent destination on India’s maritime tourism map. The event not only celebrates coastal culture and lighthouse heritage but also reinforces the city’s role as a key hub in the country’s maritime narrative.
