Trump warns Hamas, Iran after Netanyahu talks

U.S. President Donald Trump issued strong warnings to Hamas and Iran following high-level talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, presenting a united front on Gaza, Iran’s nuclear ambitions, and wider Middle East security. Speaking at a joint news conference in Florida on December 29, 2025, Trump emphasized that Washington would respond forcefully to any violations of existing agreements or renewed threats.

Strong Warning to Hamas Over Gaza Disarmament

President Trump made it clear that Hamas must disarm as agreed under the fragile Gaza ceasefire or face severe consequences. Addressing reporters at his Mar-a-Lago resort, Trump said the responsibility for moving forward with the second phase of the truce lies with Hamas.

He warned that failure to disarm within a short period would lead to serious repercussions, stating that Hamas would have “hell to pay” if it does not comply. Hamas’s armed wing, however, reiterated that it would not surrender its weapons, arguing that resistance would continue as long as occupation remains.

Trump also dismissed reports of friction with Netanyahu over the ceasefire, saying Israel had honored its commitments and that he had “very little difference” with the Israeli leader.

U.S. Threatens Fresh Action Against Iran

Iran was another major focus of the talks, with Trump warning that any attempt by Tehran to rebuild its nuclear facilities or ballistic missile arsenal would be met with swift and decisive action.

Trump said that if Iran rebuilt sites destroyed during earlier U.S. and Israeli strikes, the United States would “knock them down” and possibly respond with even greater force than before. He accused Iran of “behaving badly” and suggested it was exploring new nuclear locations while trying to restore missile capabilities.

Despite the tough rhetoric, Trump said he believed Iran remained interested in negotiating a deal with Washington over its nuclear and missile programs. Iran continues to deny that it is pursuing nuclear weapons.

Iran Rejects Allegations, Warns of Retaliation

Iran strongly rejected the reports, calling them a psychological operation aimed at pressuring Tehran. Iranian officials said the country is fully prepared to defend itself and warned that renewed aggression would lead to harsher consequences for Israel.

These statements come amid Israeli concerns that Iran has been rebuilding its missile arsenal following the 12-day conflict with Israel earlier this year.

Netanyahu Praises Talks, Honors Trump

Prime Minister Netanyahu described the meeting as very productive and announced that Israel would award President Trump its highest civilian honor, marking the first time the award has gone to a non-Israeli citizen.

The meeting was the fifth between the two leaders in the United States since Trump returned to power and appeared to reinforce Israel’s influence on Washington’s focus regarding Iran.

Next Phase of Gaza Ceasefire and Regional Focus

Trump, who has referred to himself as a “President of peace,” said he was eager to move into the next phase of the Gaza truce. This phase would involve installing a Palestinian technocratic government and deploying an international stabilization force.

While some White House officials have expressed concern that progress is slow, Trump said he was not worried about Israel’s actions and believed reconstruction in Gaza could begin soon. However, he offered few concrete details.

Discussions also covered other regional flashpoints, including Syria and Hezbollah in Lebanon. Trump expressed hope that Netanyahu could establish working relations with Syria’s new president, despite ongoing Israeli strikes near the border.

Broader Diplomatic Push

Netanyahu’s visit capped a busy period of diplomacy in Palm Beach, where Trump also hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for talks on ending Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The Gaza ceasefire, achieved in October, remains one of the key foreign policy achievements of Trump’s first year back in office. U.S. and regional mediators are pushing to maintain momentum, with reports suggesting Trump hopes to announce plans for an interim Palestinian government and international force as early as January.

However, the continued refusal by Hamas to disarm remains the central obstacle to lasting stability in Gaza.
