Indian boxing legend Mary Kom is once again at the centre of public discussion after her ex-husband Karung Onkholer Kom, also known as Onler, strongly refuted allegations made by her regarding financial misconduct during their marriage. Onler has openly challenged Mary Kom to prove her claims, stating that he supported her career selflessly for nearly two decades.

Allegations and strong denial
Mary Kom had alleged that Onler cheated her out of crores earned during her illustrious boxing career. She claimed he took loans in her name, mortgaged her property, and transferred assets without her consent. Speaking earlier on Aap Ki Adalat, she questioned his contribution to the marriage, saying he never earned a single penny.
Onler, however, has categorically denied these accusations. Speaking to HT City, he dared Mary Kom and others to verify his financial records, including his PAN card and tax returns, to prove any wrongdoing.

No assets, no wealth claims
Onler asserted that he has no significant assets or wealth in his name. He revealed that he currently lives in a rented house in Delhi with a monthly rent of ₹16,000. According to him, the only land he owns is a piece of farmland in his village, purchased by his father before their marriage. He also pointed out that Mary Kom owns several movable and immovable assets, which she earned during her career, while he supported her as part of a family unit.

Career sacrifices for family
One of the most striking revelations made by Onler was about the sacrifices he claims to have made at Mary Kom’s insistence. He said he was preparing for the UPSC examinations and was also a contract football player with Shillong’s Excise and Customs department. However, he agreed to give up his career ambitions to support Mary’s boxing journey and take care of their household and children.

Raising children and managing the home
Onler shared that while Mary Kom travelled extensively for training and competitions, he managed the home front entirely. He said he raised the children, bathed and fed them, took them for coaching, and ensured the household ran smoothly. He described his role as that of a full-time caregiver, driven by love and belief in Mary’s passion for boxing.

Hurt over public statements
While clarifying that he has no objection to Mary Kom moving on with her personal life or the divorce, Onler expressed deep hurt over what he called disrespectful and dismissive remarks about his role in their marriage. He stated that although they have obtained a divorce through a customary court, his contribution should not be erased or ridiculed in public.
