This visit is PM Modi's second trip to the South American nation as Prime Minister, his previous visit being in 2018 for the G20 Summit. Argentina marks the third stop on his ongoing five-nation tour, following his engagements in Russia and Trinidad and Tobago. The Prime Minister's arrival in Argentina underscores India’s commitment to strengthening its global partnerships, especially with key Latin American economies.

During his stay in Buenos Aires, PM Modi is scheduled to hold wide-ranging discussions with Argentine President Javier Milei. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the talks will cover vital sectors such as defence, agriculture, mining, oil and gas, renewable energy, trade, and investment.

In his departure statement, PM Modi highlighted Argentina’s importance as an economic partner in Latin America and as a collaborative force within the G20. “We will focus on advancing our mutually beneficial cooperation, including in the areas of agriculture, critical minerals, energy, trade, tourism, technology, and investment,” PM Modi said ahead of the meeting with President Milei, whom he had also met last year.

The visit is expected to inject fresh momentum into the India-Argentina strategic partnership and expand avenues for collaboration across various domains.
