LG Electronics India MD Hong Ju Jeon chooses Hindi over English or Korean at IPO debut. Watch

In a remarkable moment that won hearts across India, LG Electronics India’s Managing Director, Hong Ju Jeon, chose to deliver his entire speech in Hindi during the company’s much-anticipated IPO debut. The event not only marked LG’s strong entry into the Indian stock market but also showcased a powerful gesture of cultural connection and localization.

A Stellar Market Debut
LG Electronics India made a stunning debut on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) on Tuesday, listing at ₹1,710.10 per share   more than 50% higher than its issue price of ₹1,140. The stock quickly climbed further, reaching a high of ₹1,749 in early trade, signaling robust investor confidence. The IPO was subscribed 54.02 times, underscoring the market’s enthusiasm and trust in the brand’s future in India. Following this impressive listing, LG Electronics India’s market capitalisation surged to ₹1,16,640.25 crore, marking one of the strongest openings in recent times.

A Speech That Stole the Show
While the financial success of the IPO was noteworthy, the true highlight of the event was Hong Ju Jeon’s Hindi address. The South Korean MD, instead of opting for English or his native Korean, spoke entirely in Hindi, captivating the audience and earning widespread praise online.

Social media platforms were abuzz with admiration. One X user wrote, “LG MD giving his IPO address in Hindi... rare for a South Korean company chief ...signs of going local completely.” Another remarked, “MD Hong Ju Jeon speaking in Hindi (could’ve picked Korean or English)   very wholesome.”

Some even humorously connected his effort with the success of the IPO. “If my IPO was subscribed 50x+ in South Korea, you can bet I will be speaking fluent Korean too,” joked one user. Others appreciated the dedication it must have taken to learn Hindi at such fluency, with Abhijeet Mukherjee commenting, “He didn’t need to. Several Indian CEOs can’t speak Hindi fluently. He must’ve been learning for years to reach this level. Credit where it’s due.”
