Konkan Railway introduces Ro-Ro car service between Maharashtra and Goa

Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) has introduced a new Roll-on Roll-off (Ro-Ro) service for private car owners, connecting Kolad in Maharashtra with Verna in Goa. This service is designed to provide travelers with a convenient, time-saving, and stress-free alternative to navigating the busy Konkan highways.
Service Schedule
The Ro-Ro service officially begins on August 23 from Kolad and August 24 from Verna, operating on alternate days in each direction until September 11. Trains will depart at 5:00 pm and arrive at 5:00 am the following day, ensuring an overnight journey. To facilitate smooth operations, passengers are required to report by 2:00 pm for vehicle loading and boarding procedures.
Capacity and Charges
Each specially designed rake can accommodate up to 40 cars, with two cars loaded per wagon across 20 wagons. The freight charge for transporting a car is ₹7,875 (inclusive of GST), with a one-time registration fee of ₹4,000 payable at the time of booking.
Travel Options for Passengers
Car owners can also travel along with their vehicles. Each car is permitted to carry up to three passengers. KRCL has provided two options for passenger travel:
3AC coaches priced at ₹935 per passenger
Second seating priced at ₹190 per passenger
Benefits of the Service
This initiative highlights KRCL’s commitment to enhancing mobility along the Konkan route. By introducing this service, private car owners can avoid the challenges of long road trips, including traffic congestion, fatigue, and unpredictable weather. Instead, the Ro-Ro service provides a hassle-free, overnight alternative that combines convenience, safety, and efficiency.
With this expansion, KRCL continues to strengthen the utility of its Ro-Ro services, offering a sustainable and practical solution for long-distance car travel in the region.
