Kamarajar Port Handles Longest ODC Cargo at GCB

Kamarajar Port Limited (KPL) reached a remarkable milestone on 8 October 2025 by handling the longest Over-Dimensional Cargo (ODC) ever recorded at its General Cargo Berth (GCB). A single unit of breakbulk cargo measuring 90 feet in length and weighing 280.02 tonnes was successfully handled, showcasing the port’s growing expertise in managing complex project shipments.

The massive cargo, a Heat Boiler, was shipped from Constanta, Romania and imported by L&T Energy Hydrocarbon, Kattupalli. The operation required meticulous planning and execution. The Marine Department ensured safe unloading by adhering to strict safety SOPs and deploying stabiliser pontoons to maintain cargo balance. Meanwhile, the Traffic Division facilitated smooth evacuation using an 18-axle long trailer, after clearing internal port roads for seamless transportation.

KPL Managing Director, Smt. J.P. Irene Cynthia, IAS, praised the outstanding collaboration between all stakeholders, particularly NTC Logistics (CHA), Sai Shipping (Shipping Agent), and Success Shipping (Stevedore), for executing this highly challenging operation efficiently and safely.

This achievement underscores Kamarajar Port’s commitment to handling complex project cargo and its readiness to support large-scale industrial imports, reinforcing its position as a key hub for India’s maritime trade.
