Jebel Ali sets record as breakbulk volumes surge

DP World’s flagship Jebel Ali Port has achieved a historic milestone, handling a record 630,000 tonnes of breakbulk cargo in October 2025 the highest monthly total in almost twenty years. This remarkable achievement reflects the UAE’s rapidly expanding industrial and construction landscape, powered by mega infrastructure projects and rising global trade activity.

A Milestone Driven by Industrial Growth

The surge in breakbulk cargo is closely tied to renewed industrial momentum in the UAE. Imports of iron and steel witnessed significant growth, mainly driven by large-scale projects such as:

  • Dubai Metro Blue Line development

  • Dubai World Central (DWC) airport expansion

At the same time, sugar exports climbed, reflecting strong regional demand and the UAE’s role as a key re-export hub.

Momentum Continues After a Strong 2024

This new record builds on Jebel Ali Port’s outstanding performance in 2024, when breakbulk volumes rose 23% year-on-year, reaching 5.36 million tonnes. The 2025 milestone reinforces both the port’s operational strength and the country’s growing importance in global trade corridors.

DP World: Strengthening Supply Chain Confidence

Commenting on the achievement, Shahab Al Jassmi, Chief Commercial Officer, Ports & Terminals at DP World GCC, said:

“This milestone demonstrates the confidence businesses place in Jebel Ali as the region’s most reliable gateway. Rising volumes show how we are helping customers meet growing infrastructure demand while keeping supply chains efficient and resilient. We remain committed to expanding capacity, technology, and sustainability initiatives to support long-term growth.”

His statement highlights DP World’s continued commitment to scale up capabilities and guarantee seamless cargo movement across industries.

Breakbulk Cargo: A Core Strength

Breakbulk cargo consisting of heavy, oversized, and complex materials is essential for major construction and industrial ventures across the region. Jebel Ali Port plays a crucial role in handling these specialized shipments efficiently.

With the support of Jafza’s integrated ecosystem, DP World leverages advanced logistics infrastructure to ensure smooth cross-border movement for complex cargo, reinforcing its position as a global logistics powerhouse.

Expansion of Automotive Logistics at Jebel Ali

Further strengthening its portfolio, DP World expanded its automotive logistics capacity in August 2025. The launch of a 2.6 million sq. ft. vehicle storage yard at Terminal 4 has significantly boosted Jebel Ali’s ability to serve rising automotive demand in the region.

Strengthening the UAE’s Global Trade Leadership

The October 2025 record underscores more than operational excellence it highlights the UAE’s strategic position as a global trade hub. As infrastructure investments continue and regional supply chains expand, Jebel Ali Port is set to remain a cornerstone of trade, innovation, and logistics connectivity.
