India to become world’s third-largest economy by 2027: Amit Shah

India’s economic growth story continues to gather momentum, with Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah expressing strong confidence in the country’s future. Speaking at multiple events in Ahmedabad on Saturday, Mr Shah said India is firmly on track to become the world’s third-largest economy by 2027, highlighting the nation’s expanding global influence and robust development trajectory.

India’s Growing Economic Strength

Addressing the Youth Business Summit at Vishwa Umiya Dham in Ahmedabad, Amit Shah pointed out that India’s Gross Domestic Product has already reached $4.19 trillion. He added that the economy is well positioned to cross the $5 trillion milestone in the near future. According to him, this growth reflects years of consistent policy reforms, improved governance, and a strong focus on infrastructure and innovation.

Mr Shah emphasized that India’s economic rise is not limited to numbers alone but is also visible in the country’s increasing confidence on the global stage. He credited the youth, entrepreneurs, and business leaders for playing a key role in driving this progress.

Leadership in Digital Payments

One of the major highlights of Mr Shah’s address was India’s dominance in digital financial transactions. He noted that during 2024–25, nearly 50 per cent of the world’s digital payments were carried out in India. This achievement, he said, showcases the success of India’s digital public infrastructure, including platforms that have made financial services accessible, fast, and secure for millions of citizens.

The widespread adoption of digital payments has not only boosted transparency but has also strengthened financial inclusion, helping small businesses, startups, and rural communities become part of the formal economy.

Focus on Healthcare Development

Earlier in the day, while addressing the IMA Netcon 2025 organised by the Indian Medical Association in Ahmedabad, Amit Shah spoke about the country’s healthcare reforms. He said India’s health infrastructure is being developed through a holistic and integrated approach. The aim, he explained, is to strengthen healthcare delivery across both urban and rural areas, ensuring quality medical services reach every citizen.

This integrated development model focuses on improving hospitals, medical education, technology adoption, and preventive healthcare, aligning with India’s broader development goals.

Cultural Engagement and Development Initiatives

Later, Mr Shah attended ‘Namotsav’, a cultural programme based on the life of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, held at Godhavi in Ahmedabad. The event highlighted the Prime Minister’s journey and leadership, drawing large public participation.

In addition, the Home Minister inaugurated development projects worth ₹330 crore at Nava Vanjar in the presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. During the event, he also distributed certificates to rehabilitated residents of the village, underlining the government’s commitment to inclusive growth and rehabilitation-led development.

A Confident Road Ahead

Amit Shah’s remarks reflect strong optimism about India’s economic and social progress. With steady GDP growth, global leadership in digital payments, improving healthcare infrastructure, and continuous investment in development projects, India appears well positioned to achieve its goal of becoming the world’s third-largest economy by 2027. The coming years, as outlined by the Home Minister, are expected to further strengthen India’s role as a major global economic powerhouse.
