Haryana launches new logistics terminal in Kurukshetra

Kurukshetra is stepping onto the national logistics stage with the inauguration of a cutting-edge Inland Container Depot (ICD) and Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal in Dhirpur. Spanning 18 acres, this state-of-the-art facility is set to revolutionize Haryana’s trade, agriculture, and employment ecosystems. The terminal was inaugurated in the presence of Haryana’s Chief Minister, who hailed it as a transformative leap in the state’s journey toward integrated infrastructure and global competitiveness.
A Key Pillar in the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan
The Kurukshetra terminal is a vital node in the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, aimed at delivering multimodal connectivity and significantly reducing logistics costs. Designed to bring under one roof essential logistics services such as customs clearance, warehousing, and cold chain storage, the terminal is especially beneficial for landlocked regions with high export potential like Haryana. It brings facilities once exclusive to metros like Delhi and Mumbai closer to regional exporters and manufacturers.
Transforming Haryana into a Logistics Powerhouse
Kurukshetra’s new logistics hub is already being recognized as a catalyst for regional economic development. It will directly benefit agricultural mandis, MSMEs, and industrial clusters by offering improved turnaround times, cost optimisation, and seamless access to export markets. The project further strengthens Haryana’s emerging profile as a strategic logistics and investment destination.
A testament to this rising prominence is the involvement of the Dubai-based Saraf Group, which has invested in the ICD. The group also operates a Multimodal Logistics Park in Palwal and is developing a transshipment hub in Rewari cementing Haryana’s central role in the logistics network of northern India.
Economic and Employment Upliftment
Officials estimate that the new facility will reduce logistics costs by up to 30% and drastically cut delivery timelines. This increased efficiency is expected to enhance the global competitiveness of Haryana’s exports, particularly in agro-processing, textiles, engineering goods, and pharmaceuticals. Importantly, the terminal is projected to generate thousands of employment opportunities in warehousing, freight handling, transportation, and packaging services.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the terminal’s success is built on a solid foundation laid by previous administrations. He credited the strategic groundwork, including international partnerships and the skilled workforce ecosystem supported by the Department of Foreign Cooperation, for making this visionary project a reality.
A Regional Gateway to Global Trade
Beyond its immediate utility for Kurukshetra, the terminal is poised to serve as a logistics gateway for Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. It is set to streamline the flow of both domestic and port-bound cargo, bolstering trade across northern India. Touted as the “Gateway to Global Trade,” the terminal is being promoted as an incubator for SMEs, farmer producer organizations, and young entrepreneurs who can now scale their businesses more efficiently.
Building a Future-Ready Haryana
This launch signifies more than just infrastructure it represents a bold shift in Haryana’s development narrative. With strategic investments, foreign partnerships, and a focus on multimodal logistics, the state is paving the way for inclusive, infrastructure-led growth. As global supply chains continue to realign post-pandemic, Haryana’s proactive approach positions it as a critical fulcrum in regional and international trade networks.
The Dhirpur terminal is not just a logistics facility it’s a launchpad for Haryana’s future in global commerce.
