GSL launches final two fast patrol vessels for Indian Coast Guard
Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) has reached a remarkable milestone with the launch of the final two Fast Patrol Vessels (FPVs) ICGS Ajit and ICGS Aparajit for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG). This achievement marks the successful completion of an eight-vessel series built indigenously under GSL’s ongoing patrol vessel programme, further strengthening India’s maritime defence capabilities.
Commitment to Indigenous Excellence
Each of these vessels weighs approximately 320 tonnes and incorporates over 65% indigenous components. This highlights GSL’s strong dedication to the “Make in India” initiative and the nation’s growing self-reliance in defence manufacturing. The use of locally sourced materials and technology not only enhances operational efficiency but also reinforces India’s strategic autonomy in naval production.
Unmatched Production Efficiency
Demonstrating exceptional efficiency, GSL has launched an impressive 12 vessels since July 2024 averaging one ship every 40 days. This production pace underscores the shipyard’s technical prowess, advanced infrastructure, and dedication to delivering quality vessels within tight schedules, setting new benchmarks for India’s defence shipbuilding industry.
Expanding Global Footprint
GSL’s ambitions extend beyond national boundaries. The shipyard is now preparing to launch a dredger for a Belgian client, a floating dry dock for a foreign navy, and a next-generation patrol vessel within the current financial year. These international projects reflect GSL’s growing global footprint and its ability to meet the diverse requirements of clients across sectors.
Consistent Growth and Success
In line with its operational success, GSL’s financial performance has shown remarkable growth. The shipyard’s gross revenue has surged from ₹865 crore in 2021–22 to an impressive ₹3,190 crore in 2024–25. This substantial increase signifies not just financial strength, but also the company’s evolving role as a leading player in both domestic and international shipbuilding markets.
Conclusion
The launch of ICGS Ajit and ICGS Aparajit marks another proud chapter in India’s maritime journey. GSL’s consistent innovation, commitment to indigenization, and expanding international presence continue to propel the nation toward becoming a global leader in shipbuilding and defence manufacturing.
