Gill and Dunkley named ICC Players of the Month for July 2025

Shubman Gill creates history with fourth men’s award
India captain Shubman Gill has etched his name in cricketing history, becoming the first male player to win the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award four times. His remarkable July 2025 performance in the high-stakes Test series against England saw him amass a staggering 567 runs at an average of 94.50 across three Tests. His earlier wins came in January 2023, September 2023, and February 2025.
The standout moment was Gill’s extraordinary feat in Birmingham, where he scored 269 and 161 in the same match, accumulating 430 runs – the second-highest ever in a Test. He also scored a crucial 103 in Manchester, helping India draw the fourth Test and keep the series alive. Gill’s performances not only showcased his batting mastery but also marked a strong start to his tenure as Test captain.
Reflecting on the honour, Gill said:
“It feels great to be named the ICC Player of the Month for July. This time it holds a lot more significance since it has come for my performances during my first Test series as captain. The double ton in Birmingham is something I will cherish forever. The series was a great learning experience, and I’m thankful to my teammates and the jury for this recognition.”
Gill edged past England captain Ben Stokes and South Africa’s Wiaan Mulder to clinch the award.
Sophia Dunkley claims women’s award with dominant home form
England batter Sophia Dunkley took home the ICC Women’s Player of the Month honour after a stellar run against India in both ODIs and T20Is. Across seven matches, she scored 126 runs in three ODIs and 144 runs at a strike rate of 134.57 in four T20Is. Dunkley was England’s top scorer in the T20I series and produced a standout 92-ball 83 in the first ODI at Southampton.
Beating competition from her teammate Sophie Ecclestone and Ireland captain Gaby Lewis, Dunkley expressed her delight:
“I am delighted to win the ICC Player of the Month award off the back of a really hard-fought series against India. While we would have loved to win the series, it was an invaluable experience as we prepare for the ICC Women’s World Cup.”
