DPA Kandla sets new benchmark, handles 40 ships in a single day

Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla, has once again demonstrated its growing operational excellence by setting a remarkable new record handling 40 vessel movements within 24 hours, surpassing its previous record of 38 ships achieved in December 2023. The announcement, shared by the port on X, marks a proud moment for the Kandla port ecosystem and highlights the efficiency, coordination, and dedication of its workforce.

A Milestone in Port Performance

The achievement reflects Kandla’s rising stature as one of India’s most efficient and high-performing ports. Officials stated that the exceptional teamwork across all departments marine, logistics, cargo handling, and administration enabled the smooth handling of 40 vessel movements without operational delays.
This operational breakthrough is yet another indicator of the port’s commitment to strengthening India’s maritime capabilities.

Kandla’s Growing Global Engagement

The new record comes at a time when international interest in Kandla’s infrastructure, capabilities, and clean-energy initiatives is rapidly expanding. The port is increasingly being recognised as a future-ready maritime gateway with strong sustainability ambitions.

British Delegation Reviews Green Hydrogen Progress

On November 13, a high-level British delegation led by British Deputy High Commissioner Stephen Thomas Hickling, in collaboration with GH2 India, visited DPA Kandla to review progress at India’s first indigenous 1 MW green hydrogen plant, located within the port premises.

The delegation praised Kandla’s rapid advancements in green port initiatives and its emerging influence in India’s green hydrogen ecosystem.
Officials noted that Kandla is steadily positioning itself as a crucial component in India’s clean-fuel value chain supported by major ongoing decarbonisation-focused projects.

Strengthening the Clean-Fuel Value Chain

Kandla’s green-energy commitments are aligned with India’s broader energy transition goals. The port is working on multiple sustainability-driven initiatives aimed at reducing emissions, increasing renewable energy adoption, and creating an enabling environment for green investment.

Officials highlighted that these initiatives are transforming Kandla into a strategic hub for green-energy investments, strengthening its role in the clean-fuel supply chain.

New Zealand Delegation Explores Timber Trade Opportunities

In another significant development, DPA Kandla welcomed members of the New Zealand High Commission along with leaders from the country’s forestry and wood-processing sectors.
The delegation explored the port’s capabilities as India’s primary EXIM gateway for timber, which handles a major share of the nation’s timber imports.

Their visit reinforced the potential for expanded bilateral trade, collaborative opportunities, and industry partnerships between India and New Zealand especially in forestry and timber processing.

European Experts Assess Hydrogen Facility

Earlier, on November 6, European specialists in certification and EU regulatory standards supported by GH2 India visited the port’s green hydrogen facility. They were briefed on Kandla’s upcoming scale-up plans, including capacity expansion and roadmap for future green-fuel initiatives.

Their visit added to the series of international engagements recognising Kandla’s commitment toward sustainable port operations and clean-energy transformation.

Kandla: A Port Rising to Global Standards

The back-to-back international visits and the newly achieved operational record reflect the growing prominence of DPA Kandla not only as a high-efficiency port but also as a forward-looking maritime hub transitioning toward cleaner, greener operations.

With strong global interest, ambitious decarbonisation projects, and a dedicated workforce, Kandla is steadily strengthening its position in India’s maritime and clean-energy future.
