DP World’s London Gateway crosses 3 million TEUs milestone

DP World has achieved a major milestone at its London Gateway terminal, crossing 3 million TEUs in 2025. This record performance highlights the rapid growth of the UK port, driven by infrastructure expansion, increased vessel calls, and strategic investments in technology and sustainability. Record-Breaking Growth at London Gateway
The London Gateway terminal recorded more than 3 million TEUs in 2025, a significant jump from 1.9 million TEUs handled in 2024. This represents over 52 per cent year-on-year growth. A key contributor to this surge has been the commissioning of the fourth berth, along with additional vessel calls on the Asia Europe routes operated under the Gemini Cooperation.
With this pace of growth, London Gateway remains firmly on track to become Britain’s leading container port.

Strong Performance Across UK Operations
DP World also reported strong results at its Southampton terminal. Southampton exceeded 2 million TEUs, taking DP World’s total UK throughput to more than 5 million TEUs. This performance comes within a national container market that exceeds 9 million TEUs, underlining DP World’s significant share and influence in the UK logistics landscape.

Major Expansion and Investment Plans
Expansion at London Gateway continues at scale. Two new all-electric berths are currently under construction as part of a £1 billion ($1.3 billion) investment programme. Once completed, the terminal will feature six berths, all capable of handling the world’s largest container vessels.
In addition, a second rail terminal became operational in 2025, enhancing inland connectivity and reducing road congestion. DP World has also announced plans for a £170 million ($227 million) BOXBAY container handling system over the next two years, which will further improve yard efficiency, automation, and land utilisation.

Commenting on the achievement, Stephen Whittingham, Executive Vice President   North Europe, stated that every container moving through London Gateway and Southampton supports British businesses and daily life, from food on supermarket shelves to goods that keep manufacturers and high streets operating.
He added that surpassing 5 million TEUs across the UK demonstrates how sustained investment in capacity, technology, and resilience enables DP World to move goods more reliably, sustainably, and efficiently.

Global Momentum Beyond the UK
DP World’s momentum is not limited to the UK. Recently, DP World Evyap took delivery of three new remote-controlled quay cranes at its Körfez terminal in Türkiye. This development reflects the company’s broader global strategy of deploying advanced technology to enhance safety, productivity, and environmental performance across its terminals worldwide.
