In a significant political development in Karnataka, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar arrived at Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s residence this morning for what many are calling a “power breakfast.” The meeting, though informal on the surface, carries deep political undertones as the Congress leadership seeks to stabilise its government and prepare for a major transition.

The agenda of the breakfast meeting was clear   to work out the roadmap for the transfer of power from Siddaramaiah to Shivakumar, expected as early as March–April 2026. Some political circles even joked that the transition might happen “by lunch,” highlighting the intensity of the speculation surrounding the Congress’s internal strategy.

According to sources, all signs indicate a smooth and decisive transition in favour of DK Shivakumar by 2027. The meeting is likely to finalise what is being described as the “Shivakumar–Siddaramaiah compromise formula,” a political arrangement that preserves party unity while preparing the ground for future leadership.

Until the transition takes place, Shivakumar will continue to function as the Deputy Chief Minister. Party insiders emphasise that the Congress wants to avoid any public tussle in Karnataka, one of the few states where it remains firmly in power. Abruptly removing a senior and long-serving leader like Siddaramaiah would risk internal backlash and damage the party’s stability.

Sources also suggest that Shivakumar is ready to accept the transition timeline for several reasons. His close loyalists are expected to secure more cabinet positions in the upcoming reshuffle, he will continue as the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president, and he currently lacks the numbers to force any confrontation. Moreover, this agreement appears to be the best possible deal for Shivakumar under the present circumstances.

The breakfast meeting marks a crucial step in shaping Karnataka’s political future. As Congress leadership works behind the scenes to balance ambition and stability, the coming months are expected to set the tone for a well-managed transition of power   one that could redefine the party’s trajectory in the state ahead of the 2027 election cycle.
