DFCCIL, Northern Railway Conduct Joint Inspection to Boost Freight Connectivity
Introduction
India’s rail-based logistics infrastructure continues to evolve with a strong focus on efficiency, safety, and seamless freight movement. In a significant step toward strengthening coordination and operational excellence, Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited and Northern Railway conducted a joint inspection of a key section of the Dedicated Freight Corridor.
Purpose of the joint inspection
Officers from DFCCIL and Northern Railway carried out a joint inspection of the New Dadri–Rewari–Ateli section of the Dedicated Freight Corridor. The objective was to review operational readiness, assess infrastructure, and reinforce coordinated efforts aimed at enhancing freight connectivity across the region. This collaborative approach reflects the shared commitment of both organisations to building a robust and reliable freight ecosystem.
Leadership and participating teams
The inspection was led by Sh. Shobhit Bhatnagar, Director (OP&BD), DFCCIL, and Dr. Monica Agnihotri, Principal Chief Operations Manager, Northern Railway. Senior officials from both organisations accompanied them, representing operations, business development, traffic management, and divisional offices. Their presence ensured a comprehensive evaluation covering both strategic planning and ground-level execution.
Infrastructure and operational review
During the visit, the joint team undertook a detailed review of operational systems and inspected critical infrastructure along the route. Key locations included enroute viaducts and tunnels, New Dadri Station, the Khatuwas CONCOR siding (CMLK), and the New Ateli Running Room. These inspections focused on operational efficiency, safety standards, and readiness to handle growing freight volumes.
Future connectivity and expansion prospects
In addition to existing infrastructure, officials assessed the feasibility of linking the New Rewari–Kumbhawas section. Discussions also covered potential future connectivity with the Haryana Orbital Rail Corporation, the DFC network, and Northern Railway lines. Such integrations are expected to further streamline cargo movement and improve network-wide efficiency.
Strengthening India’s freight logistics network
The joint inspection highlighted strong inter-institutional coordination between DFCCIL and Northern Railway. By working together, both organisations aim to ensure safe, seamless, and efficient freight movement on the Dedicated Freight Corridor. These efforts play a vital role in supporting the long-term growth of India’s rail-based logistics network and in positioning rail as a preferred mode for large-scale, sustainable freight transportation.
