COSCO Shipping Development delivers specialised containers to Tibet Plateau

COSCO SHIPPING Development Co., Ltd. has once again showcased its commitment to innovative logistics and community development by completing a remarkable 4,000-kilometer overland journey to the Tibet Plateau. The company successfully delivered 16 specially built steel containers, repurposed to serve public service and educational needs in one of the world’s most challenging environments. This marks the second consecutive year COSCO SHIPPING Development has undertaken such a community-focused initiative in Tibet, highlighting its dedication to combining advanced logistics with social responsibility.
Reinforced Containers Built for Extreme Conditions
To endure the plateau’s harsh climate, each container was reinforced with thick steel and advanced insulation. The project, managed by the company’s Jinzhou Container Factory, required one of the most difficult transport operations in the world. These specially designed containers were engineered to withstand severe temperatures, high-altitude conditions, and heavy snow, ensuring long-term functionality for their intended uses.
Tourism Facilities: Blending Culture and Sustainability
A portion of the containers has been converted into cultural and tourism service stations along the national highway. Each station, built using four repurposed containers, features ethnic-inspired architecture and provides travelers with information counters, service points, and displays of local cultural products. Sustainability is a key element of these facilities: solar panels, battery expansion units, and ventilated facades guarantee year-round operation, even in extreme conditions. These stations not only serve tourists but also promote local heritage and cultural awareness.
Educational Infrastructure: Modular School Halls for Harsh Climates
The remaining containers were transformed into modular school halls designed to withstand heavy snowfall and subzero temperatures. Each hall features a double-layer interlocking structure, with the ground floor dedicated to kitchens, storage, and bathrooms, and the upper floor serving as dining or activity areas. Advanced climate-control measures including cold-bridge prevention systems, drainage gutters, and sunrooms for natural lighting and insulation ensure the buildings remain functional throughout the year. All constructions adhere strictly to national building standards, providing safe, sustainable learning environments for local students.
