“Blown Away”: former Danish Ambassador on Adani Group’s Khavda renewable energy park

In a powerful testament to India’s growing role in the global green transition, Freddy Svane, the former Danish Ambassador to India, expressed awe after visiting the Adani Group’s massive renewable energy (RE) park located in Khavda, Gujarat. Describing the experience as one that left him “blown away,” Svane highlighted the park's unprecedented scale and strategic depth, praising it as a beacon of global climate action.

A Visit to the World’s Largest Renewable Energy Park

In November last year, Svane, along with ambassadors from the European Union, Belgium, and Germany, visited the Khavda RE park   the largest of its kind in the world. The visit underscored the growing interest of global powers in India’s ambitious push toward clean energy. “I was so blown away by the magnitude and the kind of strategy aligned behind it. It was an eye-opener and shows that the green transition, green strategic cooperation, whatever we call it, is so important,” Svane remarked.

A Global Call for Green Cooperation

Freddy Svane emphasized the broader implications of such projects, calling them essential not only for strengthening bilateral relations but also for securing a sustainable future for humanity. “Our next generations will be suffering if we don’t solve this climate crisis,” he cautioned, stressing the urgency for global unity in addressing environmental challenges.

Adani Group’s Role in Accelerating India’s Green Transition

During the ambassadors’ visit, Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, reiterated the company's commitment to sustainable development and global cooperation. In a post on social media platform X, Adani said, “It was a privilege to host the ambassadors from the EU, Belgium, Denmark and Germany at our office. I deeply appreciate their visit to the world’s largest renewable energy park in Khavda, Gujarat, and India’s largest port, logistics and industrial hub in Mundra.”

The discussions were described as “truly insightful,” with a strong focus on advancing India’s energy transition and boosting the hydrogen ecosystem. Adani added, “At Adani, we continue to drive forward with our ambitious renewable energy initiatives while ensuring a balanced energy mix that supports a sustainable future for all of India.”

India-Denmark Green Strategic Partnership: A Model for the World

Reflecting on the strengthening India-Denmark ties, Svane recalled the official visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Denmark in May 2022, where he met with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. The two leaders reviewed the progress of the Green Strategic Partnership and discussed key regional and global issues. “I was so pleased when Prime Minister Modi came to Denmark and we could really take the green strategic partnership forward, which is so important,” Svane noted.

A Call for Global Action

Freddy Svane concluded with a powerful message to the global community: “I do hope that it will also inspire others because what can be done bilaterally is not enough. It calls for a kind of global action, like the fight against terror.”

As the world looks for scalable and impactful climate solutions, the Khavda Renewable Energy Park stands as a shining example of how visionary leadership, international cooperation, and strategic planning can converge to drive transformative change.
