Apple to revamp Siri as a built-in chatbot: Report

Introduction
Apple is preparing for a major shift in its artificial intelligence strategy by transforming Siri into a full-fledged AI chatbot. According to a recent report by Bloomberg News, the company plans to roll out this upgrade later this year, marking Apple’s first true step into conversational AI at scale.

Siri’s transformation into an AI chatbot
Apple plans to revamp Siri by replacing its existing interface with an advanced chatbot experience. The new system is internally code-named Campos and will be deeply embedded into the operating systems of iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Unlike the current Siri, Campos will support both voice-based and text-based interactions, making conversations more natural, flexible, and context-aware across Apple devices.

Why this revamp matters for Apple
Siri’s overhaul is a critical move in Apple’s effort to catch up with its Big Tech competitors in the rapidly evolving AI race. Apple’s initial Apple Intelligence rollout in 2024 reportedly received a lukewarm response, prompting the company to rethink its approach. By introducing Campos as a core feature of its upcoming operating systems, Apple aims to reposition itself as a serious player in artificial intelligence and user-centric AI experiences.

Partnership with Google and Gemini models
Earlier this month, Apple struck a significant deal with Google to integrate its Gemini AI models into Siri. This partnership is seen as a major win for Alphabet, which continues to expand the reach of its AI technology. According to the report, Campos will run on a higher-end custom Google model, comparable to Gemini 3, internally referred to as Apple Foundation Models version 11. This move highlights Apple’s willingness to collaborate externally to accelerate its AI capabilities.

What’s coming next for Apple AI
The chatbot features of Campos are expected to arrive later this year and will be one of the most prominent additions to Apple’s next-generation operating systems. Separately, The Information reported that Apple is also developing an AI-powered wearable pin equipped with cameras, microphones, a speaker, and wireless charging. This device could launch as early as 2027, signaling Apple’s broader ambitions beyond smartphones and computers.

Official response and outlook
Apple has not yet responded to requests for comment from Reuters regarding these reports. However, if these plans move forward as expected, the revamp of Siri into a built-in AI chatbot could redefine how users interact with Apple devices and significantly influence the company’s position in the global AI landscape.
