Amul tops India’s food brands list with $4.1 billion valuation, followed by Mother Dairy: Report

Amul tops India’s food brands list with $4.1 billion valuation, followed by Mother Dairy: Report

In a remarkable feat for India’s dairy industry, Amul has once again emerged as the nation’s top food brand, according to a recent report by UK-based independent brand valuation and strategy consultancy, Brand Finance. The dairy giant, operated by the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), has been valued at a staggering $4.1 billion, securing the first position in the Brand Finance India 100 - 2025 report.

Mother Dairy Comes Second with Strong Brand Growth

Hot on Amul's heels is Delhi-NCR based Mother Dairy, which secured the second spot with a brand valuation of $1.15 billion. The brand's continued growth is evident in its jump from 41st to 35th position in the list of India’s top 100 brands across industries. The company’s Managing Director, Manish Bandlish, expressed his gratitude, acknowledging the efforts of consumers, farmers, employees, and partners, and dedicated this recognition to every stakeholder.

Other Brands That Made the Cut

The list continues to highlight the dominance of dairy brands in India. Britannia took the third place, followed by Karnataka-based dairy cooperative Nandini in fourth and Dabur in fifth. This pattern reinforces the strong performance of dairy-focused brands in the Indian food sector.

Dairy Brands Lead the Food Sector

The report confirms that dairy brands are leading the pack, with their deep-rooted presence in Indian households and reliable distribution networks. Amul’s global reach, consistent quality, and robust farmer network have helped it maintain the top spot. GCMMF, which manages Amul, collects over 32 million litres of milk daily, and distributes over 24 billion packs annually, offering a wide range of dairy products from milk and butter to cheese and ice cream.

Amul and Mother Dairy – Driven by Farmers

Both GCMMF MD Jayen Mehta and Mother Dairy MD Manish Bandlish have attributed these rankings to the relentless efforts of millions of dairy farmers. Their commitment to delivering fresh and quality products to consumers has been key to building such strong brand identities.

Mother Dairy’s Expanding Portfolio

In the fiscal year 2024-25, Mother Dairy recorded a turnover of ₹17,500 crores, marking a 16% increase from the previous year. While milk and milk products remain the core, the brand also has a diversified product range. It markets edible oils under the ‘Dhara’ brand, and fresh and frozen vegetables and snacks under the ‘Safal’ brand, showing significant expansion beyond dairy.

Conclusion: India’s Dairy Powerhouses Continue to Shine

As per Brand Finance’s analysis, India’s food brand landscape continues to be dominated by dairy cooperatives, driven by their farmer-first approach, diverse product portfolios, and unmatched consumer trust. The top rankings of Amul and Mother Dairy are not just testaments to their market presence, but also to the empowerment of rural India and the strength of cooperative models.
