Adani Ports launches inland container depot at Malur, strengthening South India trade corridors
Introduction
Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) has taken a significant step in strengthening India’s logistics ecosystem with the launch of its Inland Container Depot (ICD) at Malur near Bengaluru. This strategic development reinforces the company’s commitment to building seamless, end-to-end trade connectivity across South India and beyond.
A major milestone for logistics expansion
The inauguration of Adani ICD Malur marks an important milestone in APSEZ’s inland logistics journey. The launch event witnessed the presence of over 250 customers and logistics partners, reflecting strong industry confidence in the facility and its long-term role in supporting regional trade and supply chains.
Strategic location and multimodal connectivity
Located along the Bengaluru–Chennai railway main line near Malur station, the ICD is designed for efficient multimodal cargo movement. It features its own dedicated rail siding and enjoys excellent road connectivity through NE7 and NH44. The facility is well linked with key ports including Adani Kattupalli, Ennore, Vizhinjam, Chennai and JNPT, enabling faster and more cost-effective export-import operations for businesses in South India.
Future-ready infrastructure and facilities
Spread across 30 acres, with an additional 21 acres reserved for future expansion, ICD Malur is equipped with advanced logistics infrastructure. Key features include modern Terminal Operating Systems and Gate Operating Systems, real-time control towers, integrated warehousing solutions and on-site customs clearance. These capabilities position the depot as a technology-driven, future-ready logistics hub capable of handling growing cargo volumes efficiently.
Boost for regional industries and trade corridors
The depot’s proximity to major industrial clusters in Karnataka, along with easy access to Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, gives it a strong competitive advantage. Manufacturers, exporters and importers across multiple sectors stand to benefit from improved turnaround times, reduced logistics costs and enhanced supply chain reliability.
Strengthening Adani’s pan-India logistics vision
With the commissioning of ICD Malur, Adani Ports and SEZ further strengthens its pan-India logistics network. The new facility supports the company’s broader vision of port-to-factory gate connectivity, spanning 11,000 km of coastline and covering 95 per cent of the country’s hinterland. ICD Malur adds another strategic asset to Adani’s growing inland logistics footprint, reinforcing its role as a key enabler of India’s trade and economic growth.
