29 highway projects worth ₹5,233 crore in Andhra, inagurated by Gadkari

In a landmark step towards infrastructure development in Andhra Pradesh, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 29 National Highway projects spanning 272 kilometers, with an investment of over ₹5,233 crore. The grand event was held in Mangalagiri, attended by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Union Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, Deputy CM Bhupathi Raju Srinivasa Varma, popular leader Pawan Kalyan, Union MoS Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, along with various MPs, MLAs, and senior officials.

Boosting Connectivity and Safety

Addressing the gathering, Minister Gadkari highlighted the strategic vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that these highway projects are meticulously planned to:

  • Eliminate accident-prone black spots and railway crossings

  • Reduce transportation and logistics costs

  • Improve last-mile connectivity to rural and tribal regions

  • Decongest urban centres such as Tirupati, Nellore, and Rayachoty

These enhancements are expected to position Andhra Pradesh as a key player in India's economic growth, while also significantly contributing to road safety and travel efficiency.

Economic Impact and Job Creation

Gadkari emphasized that improved road infrastructure has played a pivotal role in bringing down logistics costs from 16% to 10%, with a target of reaching 9% by December 2025. This improvement, he stated, would double India’s exports and boost employment across sectors. Since 2014, National Highway length under NHAI has increased by 120%, from 4,000 km to 8,700 km in Andhra Pradesh, showcasing a substantial leap in connectivity.

Key Projects Inaugurated

Among the completed projects, two major stretches stand out:

  • NH-71 (Madanapalle to Pileru): Developed as a 4-lane corridor over 56 km, costing ₹1,994 crore. The stretch includes 9 flyovers, a rail overbridge, 19 major bridges, 5 vehicular underpasses, and 10 local underpasses.

  • NH-340C (Kurnool to Mandlem): Upgraded to a 4-lane road with paved shoulders across 31 km, with an investment of ₹858 crore. The development includes 1 flyover, 4 viaducts, 3 local underpasses, and a minor underpass.

Foundation for Future Development

Alongside the inaugurations, foundation stones were laid for 27 additional projects aimed at improving access to:

  • Religious destinations: Tirupati, Srisailam, Kadiri, and Horsley Hills

  • Tourist spots: Vodarevu Beach

  • Economic zones: Sri City, Krishnapatnam Port, and Tirupati Airport

These upcoming projects will enhance regional connectivity, promote tourism, support religious pilgrimages, and strengthen logistics links to key economic hubs.

Conclusion

With this robust initiative, Andhra Pradesh is poised for a transformative leap in infrastructure and economic growth. As the state sees a rise in seamless connectivity and reduced logistics costs, the newly inaugurated and proposed highway projects are set to redefine the mobility, safety, and prosperity of its citizens aligning perfectly with the vision of a New India under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.
